The Films of Fred Astaire & Ginger Rogers In-Person
Join film Historian and New York State Librarian Philip Harwood for a lively exploration of the legendary musical partnership that gave us some of the most magical moments in film musical history.
We will explore the ten musicals of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, with clips from such films as Top Hat, Swing Time, Shall We Dance, The Barkleys of Broadway, and others.
Astaire and Rogers not only advanced the genre of dance in the Hollywood Musical, but during a period of national economic crisis, this pair pulled us away from the misery of the world,danced their way into our hearts, and fulfilled our dreams.
